I went over 36 hours without checking my email last week and it was kind of wonderful.
As a web developer and a blogger, I’m rather glued to my email, or it might be more accurate to say email is the glue that holds my professional life together. Without it I’d have to talk to people on the phone. How awful! Although my phone anxiety is nowhere what it used to be, in most cases I find it less stressful to type a message rather than chat it out.
I spend several hours a day in front of a computer with my email software automatically checking for new messages every 5 minutes. If you email me after I’ve dragged myself out of bed, I will probably read your message within an hour or two of you sending it. How long it will take me to reply…well, that’s too embarrassing to mention. But I did read your message even if I feel completely overwhelmed and want to crawl back into bed [...]

The Kindle edition of my first book, Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir, is on sale for only $2.99 at Amazon for the month of February. Now’s a great time to buy a copy if you never got around to it before or if you only recently got an e-reader or if you just like buying things on sale.
(Sorry, Nook readers, I have no control over sale prices otherwise I’d give you guys a sale too.)
Edited to add: BTW, this is part of the monthly Amazon 100 promotion in which Amazon discounts 100 ebooks to $3.99 or less. There’s a good variety of books there, so you might find another good deal!

Last month I finally cracked and bought a Kindle. The price has dropped to $139, which isn’t exactly cheap, but is cheaper than a trip to the dentist without insurance. For that price I figured I’d enjoy an e-book reader more than chomping on one of those bite-wing x-ray thingies that cut into my cheek. You can also buy one for $114, but the screensaver displays an ad when the Kindle is turned off. I thought it was worth the extra $25 to opt out of that.
What finally pushed me over the edge and into a credit card charge was the Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series by George R. R. Martin. The first book was recently turned into the first season of an HBO series and it sucked me in. There have been four books released so far, and the fifth comes out in less than a week. The release schedule is like waiting for a Kate Bush album though, and Martin keeps adding books to the projected length of the series, [...]

Ok, I apologize for my shameless shilling in advance, but mama’s gotta’ pay the rent (and the wireless bill). I wanted to let you know today is the last day you can get Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir for $0.99 in the Amazon Kindle store. What I wanted to add is that you don’t need a Kindle to read Kindle books. You can download the free app for a computer or your phone. A surprising number of people I know read books on their phones, which I suppose makes sense if you commute a lot or you just get bored in line at the coffee shop. I’ve read several Kindle books on my computer and don’t mind it since I spend so much time at a computer anyway.
Shilling over. Regular blogging to resume shortly.
Oh, and my apologies to Nook users. I don’t have any control over book pricing, but I’d give you guys a sale too if I could!

My first book, Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir is currently ranked #90 in the Kindle paid store. Woot! If you’ve been meaning to buy a copy but never got around to it, you can grab the book for only $0.99 right now. I’m not sure how long that sale will last, so you’d better hop over there right quick.
Confession: I just bought the Kindle version myself so I’d have a copy in that format :)
Special thanks to Bernie at One Mixed Bag for letting me know about this.
