If I want to watch an episode of The West Wing right now all I have to do is turn on my Playstation 3, connect to the Netflix app, and select an episode. That’s it! So simple! So easy! Alas, it was not always this way. Boys and girls, let me take you back in time to…
The Year 2000
By the fall of 2000 I had heard good things about this show called The West Wing which had already aired its first season. I tuned in for the season two premiere and was instantly drawn in by the fallout of an assassination attempt and the flashbacks to how the characters originally met. I wanted to watch season one so I could catch up and figure out why this Donna person was so devastated that Josh had been shot. Alas, in the year 2000 we did not have Netflix streaming. Nor did we have box sets of television shows available to purchase the year after they’d aired. We did [...]

I finally watched Band of Brothers this year, something I’ve been meaning to do for, oh, ten years. Band of Brothers is a TV mini-series about an American airborne infantry company that fought in Europe during World War II. I’d stumble across it occasionally during a Labor Day marathon on TBS, but I wanted to watch it from the beginning, so I never stopped to watch for long.
It’s a good series, and it’s fun to play “spot the future star” while watching. There’s James MacAvoy! Simon Pegg just delivered a telegram! Jamie Bamber fought Nazis before he fought cylons! Moriarty from Sherlock just arrived! That guy looks sort of like Michael Fassbender, probably because he *is* Michael Fassbender.
Spoiler alert: President Roosevelt dies before the end of the war. I preface this with the words “spoiler alert” because I am the nitwit who was shocked by this plot development. Yes, I graduated from high school. I even got all A’s. Oh, Kentucky public school system, how [...]

Jacqui has been reading my blog for a long time. I just searched the comments on my old PastaQueen blog to see that she’s been reading since 2007 and has posted well over a hundred comments, so she’s earned a high rank in the Macaroni Military. Salute! She used to comment as JEM from the now defunct site agirlworthlosing.blogspot.com, if you’re curious. I recognized her email address right away when she contacted me earlier this year to put together her web site. It’s strange, yes, but I know some of you better by your email addresses than by your given names.
Anyway, Jacqui needed a web site because she’s being featured on the ABC show Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition this Sunday, June 10, at 9:00 Eastern Time. (She’s up against the Tony’s, I know, so DVR that and watch Jacqui live, ok? Neil Patrick Harris will understand.) The episode is two hours long, so settle in with your butter-less popcorn.
I can also tell you, there’s no better reminder to get a client’s site [...]
