The chattiest gas station in America

I always marvel at people who make spontaneous conversation with strangers. A woman in the soup aisle of the grocery store once started talking to me about the price of minestrone or something. I went along with the conversation, nodding and responding when appropriate, but inside all I could think was, “Wow, how weird is it that I’m talking to some stranger in the soup aisle?” My social anxiety about talking to strangers far outweighs my desire to talk about barley.

This is why I have deemed the Hess gas station as the chattiest gas station in America. Why?

The number of impromptu conversations I have had with patrons of Hess: 2

Number of impromptu conversations I’ve had at any other gas station ever: 0

I don’t know if this is a Southern thing, or if someone stuck a sign on my back that says “Please chat with me as I pump petrol!” All I know is that I’ve had two hit and run conversations with patrons of the Hess gas station this […]

I’m a clothes horse. Whinny! Ney!

My closet doesn’t quite look like the picture above, but it’s not too far from it. I have a lot of clothes in a lot of different sizes. As I’ve mentioned in blog posts, on my web sites and in a book available in bookstores nationally, I’ve gained back some weight since my all-time lowest weigh-in. I make a point to say that because I sometimes still get comments or emails from people who think I’ve been hiding this fact despite everything I’ve done to publicize it. So yes, I am fatter than my thinnest, but thinner than my fattest. And I’m okay with that. Seriously.

That said, I’ve still got all these clothes that I bought either on the way down or the way back up, and I can’t bring myself to get rid of them. I’ve got at least 4 or 5 boxes of jeans, shirts, and even some underwear, plus everything that is currently hanging in my closet. I felt rather ridiculous moving all […]

Radio, radio

I meant to post about this BEFORE it happened, but my time machine only goes forward very slowly, so I will instead be posting about it AFTER it happened. I talked to CJ Liu on her radio show Fire it Up with CJ today about my weight loss story and the struggles of weight maintenance, etc. You can listen to the hour-long interview here once they post it sometime within the week. CJ’s show aims to “fire people up and awaken them to their full potential.” It was really fun chatting with her! Thanks for having me on, CJ.

The Weight Loss Blog Title Generator

So, I was up far too late at FitBloggin’ last night (this morning?) with Shauna, and in a bit of madness I coded something in two hours. It was like how Facebook began in that movie The Social Network, only we won’t be getting rich and this project won’t tear our friendship apart (I hope).

Behold, the Weight-Loss Blog Title Generator!

(No, we weren’t drunk. Yes, I swear.)
